Choose one main activity, confirm the details that matter to your family and leave room for the day to change. You do not need a packed itinerary to make a local outing worthwhile.

Start with time and budget

Decide how long you have, including the journey home. Set a total budget that includes travel, food and any booking charges. A free activity can still involve other costs. If adults are sharing care, agree who is handling travel and what time the handover happens.

Choose an outdoor or indoor starting point

For an indoor option, Ipswich Libraries provides Kids & Family, First 5 Forever and programme information. Open the individual listing to confirm the branch, age range, booking requirements and date; these are not all Ripley-based activities.

The six details to confirm

1. Exact venue and street address.
2. Start and finish time, including any arrival requirement.
3. Suitable ages and whether an adult must stay.
4. Price, inclusions and whether every participant needs a booking.
5. Toilets, shade and access arrangements your household needs.
6. Cancellation information and the organiser's contact details.

Have a smaller backup, not a second full itinerary
